Rosetta Stone – English as a Second Language (ESL) Skills
Using Rosetta Stone, learners can receive unequaled online training in English as a Second Language for 26 different languages.
With a rising immigrant population in the United States, many employers want their workers to have a command of English so the business, and the employee can be successful.
Developed by Fairfield Language Technologies, Rosetta Stone uses the natural method – how people learn their native languages as children – to teach language skills. Using interactive technology, this method is replicated for learners of any age.
Learners match spoken phrases with images, and the computer confirms the match and the meaning without requiring memorization or translation. Because the image has a name, the words have meaning.
Reading comprehension is developed by matching written phrases with images.
The program contains speech recognition software that allows learners to record themselves and play back speaking in the new language. A meter on the screen immediately assesses proficiency and analyzes their pronunciation, giving them feedback to improve and gain confidence.
Students gain experience writing. After listening to spoken words and phrases, students type what they hear, and the system checks their writing for accuracy.
